Ear To The Ground: Crackazat – Evergreen LP

It was only last month we were given a taster of what was about to drop on Crackazat’s new album, when he released his Beacon of Light EP featuring new work from this LP. We were pretty hyped with what we heard and it wasn’t long after we were sent the LP in its entirety. Blown. Away!

This new album features 12 classy original tracks that provide you with stunning musicianship, brilliant composition and killer vocals (where has he been hiding them!!!) while fusing current house, jazz and soul like I haven’t heard for a very long time, with the odd nod to one or two of the greats like Stevie and Roy tucked in for good measure. There is something very special about the album in that it continues to push house in a direction of improved composition and live performance while fusing other genres such as soul and jazz (not something new I might add) which, when standing alone, have always needed to excel in these areas in order to succeed. This allows this album to sit proudly alongside anything house right now and at the same time artists such as Ashley Henry, Blue Lab Beats, Robert Glasper and Tom Misch.

With so many elements and styles pulling this album together, it is still ‘House’ and you simply don’t get much better. Picking my favourite from the 12 is not possible, the soul and groove is palpable, the positivity is uplifting and you will randomly find yourself looking strange on public transport shaking your head and smiling ear to ear while listening to this long player.

This is one for the record collection, simples. Make sure it’s in yours here
