Heist drop their 42nd releaase just in time for your Xmas stockings and if you have space for just one more present from Santa, then i’d quickly get on this as it is another great release from Canadian artist Demiur.
For me, lead track ‘Werq. Feel. Gruv. Vogue.’ really has Demiur and Heist written all over it and if you were to suggest this to someone who hadn’t heard the track before, they would imagine this. Firing from the first beat it delivers jacked up beats, killer loops, vocal samples that just take the track to another dancefloor level and funk vibe that just makes this a proper dancefloor stomper. Opening track and track of the EP, no doubt.
‘The 3nity Returneth (Dub Mix)’ is all about the deep Detroit flavours. Stabbing synths, smooth bass and spoken sample take this later into the night and will find a few losing themselves to this in the very early hours. On the digital release they offer an instrumental version of this and while decent, the vocal sample in the dub mix really adds a little something something so vinyl heads, you aren’t missing anything!
‘Phillipine Sunrise’ kicks of the b-side and is alright. Can’t say anything bad about it but really is just alright. Decent enough beats and rolling bass line, loops and stuff…….Great writing I know but just a litte underwhelming especially after the highs of the previous two tracks on the EP. However, Lady Blacktronika takes the parts, smacks each one with a shot of tequila and cheeky bump, shakes them up and puts them back together in a brilliant remix which the more I listen to it, the more I like it. I am yet to hear this in the middle of a dancefloor and big soundsystem but cannot wait until i do, it may get messy!!
A very happy Xmas to Demiur and all at Heist! Loving your work.
