Ear To The Ground: Recut – Dirty Fun Vol 1

Over the course of a few months, Recut Music have dropped their first three releases and all have given us some real pleasure with a dirty disco, funk, house infused dancefloor style that at last will see some club and festival action, something all three thoroughly deserve!

Dirty Fun Vol 1 is four tracks that cement the style and quality that we have seen from the first two releases. Up first is a rework of Isaac Hayes’ ‘Groove a Thon’. Stripping the original back in somewhat a dub style, the bass line and guitar hook is prominent with with horns carefully selected from the original and vocal removed. Solid beats and new layers take this to the next level and a killer start to the release.

The disco funk vibes of ‘Tox Disco’ have a live creative feel with scratching, cuts and well known samples mixed between the disco strings and beats and funk heavy slap bass.

Heading down a P-Funk Dub hole is title track ‘Dirty Fun’ which may have been given the title from the experience Recut had creating this original track. The funk fuelled bass sets the tone with multiple layers of sonic goodness added throughout, with reggae hooks, soundsystem affects and samples with slapping beats to keep this dancefloor ready.

Finally ‘Afro Machine’ focusses on the tight beats and percussion with layers of keys adding to an additional percussive element as opposed to any melodic hook. This is a twisted late night roller that will twist up many dancefloors and for you late night jocks, one for your armoury.
