Review: Laroye – Potion For Love EP

Laroye and Local Talk drop a new four track EP, released both on vinyl and also digitally in two parts over two dates.

Laroye is on fire right now with a run of exceptional releases including the brilliant Be The Change EP on Freerange at the end of 2020, plus popping up with featured appearances on his peers music such as playing percussion on the recent Jimpster release.

This new EP on Local Talk is more heat from the Frenchman with two original and two remixes and you know with this label involved the collaboration would be something pretty decent!

Side A is ‘Potion For Love (Never Give It Up)’. This starts with a deep groove but as the track progresses the track develops into House loveliness with funk, soul and jazz flavours offered by wonderous vocal and multiple layers. It even manages to have a slightly rough edge somehow and really is a belter of a track. The L.A. Spacefunk Dub rework keeps the key elements of the original but messes with percussion, manipulates sounds and adds some freewheeling creativity into additional breakdowns. It’s decent and you’d be mad to just have one without the other in your (virtual) record bag.

Side B is ‘Keep On’. Picking up the pace a little, the bouncing beats, organ loops, vocal sample, layers of Xylophone and improvised keys, plus Laroye’s own skills on percussion make this an infectious track that will provide some serious energy to any dancefloor. The 6AM Dub strips it back slightly and has a more driven feel.

Out now as a complete package on vinyl, plus Side A is currently available with Side B out on 2 April. ALL AVAILABLE HERE and we certainly recommend this complete package. We certainly hope to see Laroye team up with Local Talk again in the future. Brilliant stuff.
