Review: Austin Ato – Heat

Belter! The title of this EP couldn’t be more apt, Heat is exactly what this release is from Austin Ato and Classic Music Company.

Scotsman Austin Ato has been very much on the rise over the last 12 months with releases on Defected and Percolate most certainly helping the cause. And rightly so.

This is the DJ/Producers first release on Classic and the two track EP Heat is ready to go for release this Friday 24th April and both tracks are exceptional. Opening with title track Heat, this is a house stomper packed with soul. The track is stripped back with the focus on creative beats, rolling funk fuelled bass line and the soul drenched vocal. With organ stabs dropped in and around these parts, absolutely nothing else is required as this dancefloor stomper will terrorise dancefloors (or living rooms at this moment in time) for months to come.

For the track Drip, Austin Ato teams up with Dave Gilles II for a proper house groover. I must say I am a sucker for a spoken vocal over quality house beats, from Earl Zinger’s London vibes on Ashley Beedles Ghost Dancing to Chez Damier and friends chatting over killer house track Speechless or even the recent hip house vibes of Jimpster’s One (and plenty others over the years), there is something hypnotic about it, it does something different and sucks me in…….anyway I digress!

The track itself has great production with well thought through beats, smooth as silk hammond style keys which roll throughout alongside further organ parts which provide more freedom to the track. The bassline and synths complete the laid back house vibes which set the perfect tone for the captivating vocal, a description stolen from the label itself, as captivating is the perfect adjective.

This release gets a massive two thumbs up from me and both tracks will reasonate around many club, lounge, garden and soundsystem over the months ahead.
