Best DJ Live Streams for Lockdown

Being unable to enjoy the music we love in a club or live setting is pretty tough to take. Live streams have always been available, however we have seen the number of DJs/labels/clubs and more hosting their own live streams from a variety of locations while on lock down sky rocket. This has also divided opinion with plenty of people knocking DJs who have been publicising their sets but also others grateful and excitied at the prospect. For me, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it!

We have picked out a few forthcoming options for you for the weekend that have been created specifically due to the situation we find ourselves in. Are they better than just sticking on a new podcast or mix? This is another opinion which will differ from one person to the next, but there is something about hearing or listening to something live, regardless of the format, that can sometimes just give you a little something extra. We know we will have missed many quality offerings so do interact with our posts on social media and tell us some of your favourites.

Jimpster Sofa Sessions

On 21 March Jimpster went live on Facebook with the first of his Sofa Sessions. It was everything!! With no disrespect, with the support of his good lady, they bumbled their way through the tech of trying to stream live and set the camera up to point at the lounge coffee table complete with decks and mixer plus a comfy looking sofa for Jimpster to take his place. Musically, you know you are in for a treat with the Freerange boss so it is a must for you house heads. Technically, as expected since the first show, the sound has improved and he now talks (which is great as we love to know what gems are being played) with a mic rather than switching his headphones over to the mic jack and talking into the ear piece. This is a weekly session and you have to get involved with the next session this Friday 10 April from 19:00 and we expect this to go on while we are on lock down, we certainly hope so.

Defected Virtual Festival

The Defected team got straight to business with their Virtual Festival series with the first event taking place at Ministry Of Sound on 20 March. Running for a good number of hours, each of the two events so far have offered big line ups in true festival style. Following the first Festival at the MoS which live streamed the DJs and a couple of Defected dancers, the second edition featured live sets from the homes/studios of some of the guests, plus a few hand picked sets from Defected parties over recent times. DJs so far have included Joey Negro, Riva Starr, Simon Dunmore, Horse Meat Disco, Karizma and more. This Friday 10 April, is Defected Virtual Festival 3.0. Listed to run from 2pm to 10pm, DJs just announced include Calvin Harris, Black Motion, Sam Divine, Roger Sanchez, David Penn, Mike Dunn, Mambo Brothers and Claptone.

Ibiza Sonica Radio

The white Isle station has been streaming live DJ sessions from DJs homes in a bid to offer a “Music Delivery Service”. All the station regulars have been setting up and streaming videos via the Sonica Facebook page and with the sessions starting pretty soon after the Spanish government lock down as well as checking out their page for live session, all previous videos are saved on their videos page for your viewing and listening pleasure.

Son Of Sound

Always a fan of Son Of Sound, from his base NYC, he has taken to his studio to present his District 30 Sessions every Thursday at midnight London time (7pm EST). As you would expect, you are in for a house music treat with house in many forms but all laden with soul and delivered with class. I know you have missed this week but you can watch back last night via his Facebook page and also get the alarm set for next week.
