Heist return with a new EP from Lore Of The Samurai, a five track melting pot of music that combines underground and Chicago house, electro, techno and breaks influences, not just across the five original tracks but also within them, making this a creative first EP from the artist.
Having said that, this isn’t the first release from the producer as we are advised that Lore Of The Samurai is the pseudonym of a well known producer who has decided “….it was time to experiment, broaden his sound and produce music without the expectations that come with an established name”.
The EP certainly does mix up of the styles. The first two tracks of ‘City Loop’ and ‘Deeper Into Orbit’ provide some straight up house and underground Chicago action respectively, before firing up the bpms with an uptempo deviation into the hypnotic sounds of ‘Space Designer’.
It’s all about the electro vibes on ‘Alpha Base’ as the beats lead the charge with this multi layered beaut. Samples, chords and synth madness make this a smooth groove laden dirty sonic contradiction. Finally ‘Justifice’ takes us back to House with a deep US feel finishing off the EP in style.
This certainly is a creative collection, which sounds like exactly what the producer was aiming to achieve. I am certainly buzzing about four of the five tracks and really looking forward to more from this artist in the future! As for favourites, ‘Alpha Base’ and ‘Justifice’ really are something else!
