Review: Alma Negra – Dakar Disco EP

Read Time:1 Minute, 18 Second

The ever excellent Heist Recordings come with yet another fabulous release. The latest is from Alma Negra who lay down some of their musical influences.  It’s the lead title track ‘Dakar Disco’ that has really got us.

A slo mo’ 116 bpm but with enough afro disco funk to get any danceflloor steppin’. Full of horns and blissed out keys you can’t help but be sucked into this summer jam.

Japan’s Kuniyuki drops a worthy remix of Dakar Disco adding plenty of guitar and reverb for a proper cosmic funk workout.

Next up is the more uptempo and just as floor friendly ‘Contra’, so full of funk and energy could easily be mistaken for label owners, the mighty Detroit Swindle. Definetely our kind of afro house.

‘Back In Town’ stays in the same uptempo and floor friendly vein, pull of percussion and joy all we needed was a squelchy acid line and they only obliged.

You might have to make do with dancing in your kitchen at the moment but make sure this on your playlist. 9.5/10
